Course Description: This basic nursing assistant program prepares students to take the certification exam which is necessary to become a Certified Nursing assistant in the state of Illinois. This program is designed to prepare qualified individuals to be safe, caring, and effective nursing assistants who would work under qualified medical health care professionals. BNAs will be trained to perform at a minimum entry level in positions normally available in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health agencies. This program presents basic nursing assistant principals as well as providing opportunities for practice and demonstration of skills related to patient care. Instruction time will be divided between classroom, laboratory, and supervised experience in the clinical nursing setting. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will be awarded a BNA certificate. Rotalblys LLC is approved by the Division of Private Business and Vocational Schools of the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Rotalblys LLC is not accredited by a U.S. Department approved accrediting body.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Provide individualized care with a focus on maintaining the highest quality of life.

Describe the purpose of each health facility and identify members of the heath care team.

Describe ethical behavior for nursing assistant.

Identify the basic psychological, social, and physical changes that occur with aging.

List and describe resident’s rights.

Explain the communication channels the nursing assistant should follow when communication with the health team, patients, and families.

Explain the purpose of a Nursing Care Plan.

Identify factors that increase the risk for infection.
-
Demonstrate proper hand washing technique.
-
Explain the importance of proper body mechanics for the caregiver and patient.

Be aware of the importance of proper identification of patients prior to initiating care.

Identify the structure and function of each body system.
-
Demonstrate how to assist the patient with various ADLs.

Explain the purpose of measuring input and output.
-
Describe the responsibilities of the nursing assistant as they relate to measuring and reporting vital signs.

Identify and demonstrate the need for CPR and AED.
-
Students must show competence in all 21 Selected Manual Performance Skills identified through the federal legislation that gives guidance to the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation in order to successfully complete the Basic Nursing Assistant.
